Model Programs

On both elementary and high school levels, P'TACH provides individualized educational programs in which highly trained, licensed professionals are dedicated to helping students utilize their strengths, while increasing their self-esteem. The goal is to redirect these learning-disabled youngsters onto pathways of success.

The Resource Rooms are supplemental classes where students leave their regular classes one-two hours per day to receive specialized help in basic skills. Using a very "diagnostic - prescriptive" approach, children's learning patterns are carefully analyzed and remediation is given in the areas needed. Children are also given assistance in other "school survival skills," such as study skills, notetaking, organization, test taking, thinking skills etc. Equally important, the Resource Room specialist acts as the child's advocate to support the regular classroom teacher with information on how this child learns best. (Simply tutoring children does not provide the specific support they may need.)

The Resource Room specialist is also a wonderful "resource" to the school principal and the regular classroom teachers in screening any student in the school, determining strengths and weaknesses, and recommending an appropriate remedial plan.

For many children this hour or so a day of assistance is simply not enough. These children can achieve, but not in the regular educational system where there are large classes and teachers employ limited teaching strategies. This teaching is often too rigid or lacking in the modifications for students who learn differently. Thus, P'TACH established the self contained class in both Jewish and Secular studies, where children receive parallel instruction to the mainstream. It is a highly structured classroom with a small student- teacher ratio. The classes are staffed with specially trained teachers who utilize a variety of instructional techniques to suit the needs of each and every student. Where ever possible students are mainstreamed back into the regular class in areas of academic strength. This is in addition to full mainstreaming for all non-academic areas. This wonderful model allows our students the full benefits of a Yeshiva education along with specialized help they require.
